What will it cost? When will I get it? Those are common questions by our customers and let us be honest, we would not be any different! In order to be able to answer those questions one can try to predict the future in all horry details and spend a lot of time on something that doesn’t really bring value since we know things will change.

So how can you spend less time and still be able to predict? In this 2-day workshop we’ll provide you some of the most used Agile techniques to estimate, plan and avoid their pitfalls in order for you to spend just enough time at the right time of a project/plan.

You’ll also learn how this can help you and your customers towards a more appropriate contract and how there needs will be fulfilled along the way.

All of this not only for a small project where 5-20 people are working on but also scaled towards organizations that need to plan for 300+ people.

Learning objectives

• Explore some of the most commonly used techniques around estimation, ie. planning poker.
• We take a look at relative estimations through story points in comparison to estimations using ‘ideal days’. Both of these techniques have some pitfalls that we’ll discuss.
• When we have our estimations, it’s time to turn these into a plan of action. We’ll take a look at release planning and at a more granular level at iteration planning and how the concepts of velocity and capacity fit into all of this.
• We’ll spend quite some time on the subject of prioritization, which plays a big role in the grooming of the backlog. Uncertainty and variability, changes that we can’t and shouldn’t avoid in our quest for a good product.
• We’ll show you ways how this all can contribute towards Agile contracting. Are they really feasible? How can we get customer buy-in for these contracts?
